Stephen Malcom
Steve Malcom, owner/CEO of Knickerbocker Group, spent his college summers in Maine as a sailing instructor. He returned after graduating from Hamilton College in 1974 because he was deeply connected to the Mid-Coast – a community with strong work ethic, extraordinary skills and ingenuity. After working two years in the industry, he formed Boothbay Home Builders in 1978, a construction company that encompassed the values that endeared him to Maine in the first place. By recognizing needs and trends in the building construction business, the company quickly began to grow and evolve with the addition of Woodworking in 1985, Architecture and Design in 1990, Interior Design in 2013 and more recently Caretaking services.
Steve currently serves on the Bigelow Laboratory of Ocean Sciences Board of Trustees, Co-founder/former President of the Board of Directors at the Opera House of Boothbay Harbor, Gardiner Savings Advisory Board, and President of the Boothbay Region Economic Development Committee.
His love of the outdoors often finds him adventuring with his family: hiking, kayaking, camping, fishing and skiing are among his favorites. Steve resides with his wife and two sons in Boothbay.
Maria McGuiggan
Maria is a Maine native, who was introduced to building at a young age. As a teenager she helped her family on the construction of their new home. This experience led to a career in the construction field where she has worked for over 18 years. In 2002 she started her own construction-related company and began working closely with Knickerbocker Group. The relationship grew stronger and in 2014, she made the leap and joined the Knickerbocker team.
She resides in the Boothbay region with her fiancé and their two dogs. They love to be on the water boating, fishing and camping.
Edward “Ted” Nelson
Ted grew up in Topsfield, Massachusetts and spent his high school years in California where he excelled in school and sports. After graduating from high school Ted studied graphic design in Utah and Colorado where he also gained experience as a flooring consultant and a carpenter.
After spending his childhood summers on Capitol Island off of Southport and falling in love with the community, he made the decision to make Maine his year round home. He believes it is one of the most beautiful places in the world!! In his spare time, Ted loves playing golf, drawing, painting, and fishing.
Paul Muise
Rachael Luoma
Originally from Boothbay Harbor, Rachael spent a year out West, but couldn’t stay away for long before she was drawn back home. She has more than 20 years of cleaning experience, beginning her professional experience working at a Boothbay Harbor inn. She is now field supervisor at Knickerbocker Property Management, where she trains new cleaners and handles scheduling. She spends her free time boating, fishing, camping, and enjoying nature with her husband, Edward, and her children, Thomas and Justine.

As handyman and carpenter, Paul brings deft hands and decades of experience—including working as a piece carpenter and serving as a construction supervisor for high-end pool installations—to give clients the best customer experience possible. Whether he’s simply moving a piece of furniture or repairing extensive storm damage, his technical knowledge ensures that all maintenance tasks are completed swiftly and smoothly.
He lives in a historic 1700s Colonial that he has restored over the last fifteen years and enjoys being on the water in the summer and on the snow in the winter, as well as hiking, reading, and tinkering in his shop.
A pull to live closer to the ocean encouraged Tate and his family to relocate to Maine from Wisconsin in 2019. Having begun his career in education, Tate also worked in property maintenance and real estate—all of which led him to appreciate the importance of providing exceptional customer service. Working as a Property Caretaker, Tate is an attentive listener to clients’ needs and takes thoughtful, thorough action. Noticing the smallest details, he prides himself on anticipating the essentials, solving challenges, and maintaining relationships with an array of trusted local vendors.
Tate lives in Nobleboro with his wife Claire and their two children, Owen and Lucia. They feel fortunate to call Maine home and enjoy looking out their windows and seeing the Great Salt Bay every day. Tate values his time with family and can often be found playing with his children and hiking with his wife.
